چکیده

UNLABELLED To evaluate whether, by using an arthropump (irrigation equipment with pressure sensor), pneumatic tourniquet use could interfere with the duration of surgery, recovery of movement and joint volume in patients who underwent knee videoarthroscopy for partial meniscectomy. METHODS 103 patients divided randomly into two groups regarding use or nonuse of a pneumatic tourniquet were evaluated in five different centers by seven different surgeons. The variables were evaluated during the surgery and seven days after the operation. RESULTS No statistically significant differences were found among any of the variables studied. CONCLUSION There are no reasons that would either justify or discredit tourniquet use in this specific situation.

Comparison of the effectiveness of tourniquet and Valsalva maneuver in relieving pain caused by propofol injection to induce general anesthesia: A double-blind randomized clinical trial

Introduction: Propofol is one of the most common anesthetic drugs. Painful injection with a reported prevalence of 28 to 90% in various studies is one of the problems of taking Propofol. The present study investigated the effect of performing the Valsalva maneuver and tourniquet twisting on pain intensity and hemodynamic changes. Materials and Methods: This clinical trial was performed on 105 p...

Tranexamic Acid Reduces Blood Loss and Transfusion in Patients Undergoing Total Knee Arthroplasty without Tourniquet: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial

INTRODUCTION Blood loss during and after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can lead to substantial morbidity and the need for blood transfusions. There are several methods to minimize blood loss and to decrease transfusion rates in patients undergoing TKA. Tranexamic acid is an antifibrinolytic agent with known efficacy for achieving these goals. Currently, many surgeons are performing TKA without ...

Influence of tourniquet use in primary total knee arthroplasty with drainage: a prospective randomised controlled trial

BACKGROUND We aimed to compare the effect of tourniquet use or lack of it on recovery following uncomplicated primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA). METHODS In a prospective randomised double-blinded study, 150 patients undergoing primary TKA were assigned to either a tourniquet or non-tourniquet group. At the early phase, 3 and 6 months after surgery, an independent observer assessed the pri...

A Comparison between Single and Double Tourniquet Technique in Distal Upper Limb Orthopedic Surgeries with Intravenous Regional Anesthesia

Background: Several studies have put an effort to minimize the tourniquet pain and complications after conventionaldouble tourniquet intravenous regional anesthesia (IVRA). We expressed in our hypothesis that an upper arm singlewide tourniquet (ST) may serve a better clinical efficacy rather than the conventional upper arm double tourniquet (DT)in distal upper extremity surgeries. Methods: In th...

Timing of antibiotic prophylaxis for primary total knee arthroplasty performed during ischemia.

BACKGROUND There is no clinical trial analyzing the best moment to infuse an antibiotic during knee arthroplasty performed during ischemia. We designed a single-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to evaluate whether antibiotic therapy should be administered before tourniquet inflation or just before tourniquet deflation. MATERIAL AND METHODS Patients who underwent a pr...
